1961 Triumph TR4
The Triumph TR4 was introduced in 1961 to follow it's very successful predecessors, the TR2 and TR3. Code named 'Zest' during development the body was given a more modern and updated appearance by Michelotti but it's drive train and chassis remained the same using the well proven 4 cylinder unit but having it's capacity increased from1991cc to 2138cc. Handling was greatly improved by a three inch wider track and steering updated to the more modern and precise rack and pinion steering. Internally the car gained wind up windows and the new angular rear end aloud for a boot with a very reasonable luggage capacity for a sports car. 40,235 cars were built between 1961 and 1965 and over the years this car has become one of Triump's most popular sports cars.
Originally supplied new on the 14th of December 1961 to the Standard Triumph Motor
Company in Los Angeles the Heritage Certificate confirms the factory fitted extras
of heater, Michelin tyres and windscreen washers. The car was shipped from Kingston-
The car made it's way to Malta during the mid 60's and was repatriated to the UK in January 1967 as indicated by the registration document.
For the next 30 years from 1967 to 1997 the car remained in the ownership of the Lazell family and was subject to a full restoration during the late nineties. It was at this point that the colour of the car was changed to today's signal red with black leather. The car has a comprehensive history file indicating servicing and parts expenditure along with a number of old MOTs and tax discs which start from circa 1998.
MOTs confirm that the car has covered 5252 miles since it's restoration and 95,703 prior to 1997.
This car is presented in very good order and represents an ideal opportunity to take the plunge into classic car ownership with a truy iconic British sports car.
