1971 MGB Roadster

Chassis No. GHN5250881G

Engine No. 18GGRWEH26921

Launched in 1962 to replace the hugely popular MGA, the all new MGB was an immediate success. Its

freshly styled monocoque body offered a degree of sophistication way ahead of its predecessor, gaining

many converts from the competition who struggled on using outdated ladder frame chassis.

Powered by an enlarged 1,798cc version of the BMC 'B' series engine developing a useful 94bhp, the new car could hit 100mph with ease. Providing comfortable accommodation for two, it was initially only available as a Roadster, the 2+2 GT version joining the ranks in 1965. Both offered plenty of luggage carrying capacity and remain very pleasing and practical classics to own today.

According to the vendor, the previous owner had purchased this very smart 1971 Roadster from Ireland

many years ago. He had last used the car in 1996, putting it away in his garage, preferring to use his new Ferrari as everyday transport. The 31,800 miles showing on the speedometer is believed to be correct and when purchased by the vendor the bodyshell was found to be in remarkable condition. He informs us that the sill sections are original although they did decide to fit a new bootlid when they had the car professionally painted, changing its colour from orange to Snowberry White.

As with all such rebuilds they got rather carried away, fitting new leather trim, fresh carpets, a Motolita

steering wheel and walnut dash, a new fuel tank, as well as new Minilite-style alloy wheels. Now complete, the end result is most successful, the car exhibiting very good panel fit and general finish.

This super overdrive-equipped example has now just passed its MOT and is ready for its new owner to

enjoy, the vendor having decided that he must condense his sizeable fleet of classics into something a bit more manageable.
