1986 Jaguar XJS - HE Lynx Spyder, 13,500 miles certified from new

The Lynx XJS Spyder lived up to the Lynx reputation for top quality craftmanship, and was ahead of the factory convertible by a full decade.

The Spyder's hood was constructed from fully lined mohair and was electrically operated by two lift motors housed within the rear side panels. The rear side windows are also electrically operated. Lynx claimed the car to be completely weatherproof and relatively free from wind noise, with the added advantage of improved all-round visibility as a consequence of the removal of the XJS's buttresses. As part of the conversion, Lynx also carried out extensive strengthening of the chassis and sills adding rigidity to offset the removal of the roof panels.

The car has extensive documentation including it's service book with 17 main dealer stamps up to 2004 with a further 7 stamps from Rectory Classics up to 2012. The car has benefited from further mechanical work with maintenance to the air conditioning system and the recent fitting of a stainless steel exhaust system.

A well as the soft top conversion the car was also ordered with further options available from Lynx which included the rear seat option, Lynx body kit and Fondmetal alloy wheels, and numbered 68 out of the 120 produced. The majority of Lynx conversions were ordered for cars exported to America and it is believed that only 38 cars were converted for the UK.

This car is featured in a double-page spread in the book 'Jaguar XJ-S' by Duncan Wherrell.

Lynx conversions from the 80's are now rare, and so to find one in this condition with an extensive history and certified mileage of 13,500 from new providea all the criteria to make a sound investment in a current classic which can only appreciate with time.
